Flemington Market!

14 July 2007, Saturday

Sydney Babe: It was a AUNTIE day! Started the day by cleaning the house... never put in so much effort in cleaning a toilt before man! Scrubbed till the floor, sink, toilet bowl was sparking clean, hair-less and fur-less (zhen's sweater has been balding)! My mother would be so proud of me! haha. After our first major cleaning, we went to Flemington market to buy a week's supply of groceries!

SiL:

And the market isn't really anything like the markets we see in Singapore. I was shocked, for its HUGE! Erm.. Think Pasir Panjang wholesale market kind of market. Yeah.. but this is many times bigger... at least I think it is. Haha.
Introducing to you Paddy's Market @ Flemington

One side of the place was the non-food section... kind of like our 'pasar malams', where there are many stalls selling all kinds of things except food. But unlike the 'pasar malams', there's designated yellow boxes clearly marking the space for each 'stall'. Some of them could even drive into the space in their vans to set up their 'stall'.

On the other side of the place was the food section... and I was just stunned. Rows and rows and columns of stalls. Vendors shouting out prices... Boxes and Boxes of fresh fruits, vegetables and what-nots all going on sale. Serious sensory overload -Visual, auditory, olfactory and tactile.

Sydney Babe: It was about to close when we reached there so the entire place was like WAR. The stall vendors started to slash their prices and the customers reacted very quickly, just grab the freshest, pay and go. Was kinda disorientated as usual and was not 'auntie' enought to grab some gd buys!

SiL: Everything was kind of sold in bulk, which we also bought since it was CHEAP. 10kg of potatoes at $3; a whole box/carton of apples for $2; a whole box of green grapes for $5. Those were the bulk stuff we bought for the day. Prices just kept being slashed and everyone was grabbing everything. Haha...

Well, that's because it was near closing and most vendors wanted to clear off everything. It was a great experience as while you are browsing or choosing something, the prices just keep getting slashed. Chun & I were picking a packet of golden mushrooms priced at $1 a packet, then suddenly the store vendor told us it was 2 packets for a $1.

At the end of the day it was so satisfying. So much stuff bought at such a low price. Haha. We simply love Paddy's @ Flemington!
